Tellabs Cures Network Migration Headaches
Tellabs 8800 MSR Delivers Ethernet and TDM Over Old and New Networks
NAPERVILLE, Ill., Nov. 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- It's no secret. Businesses want fast, reliable data and mobile services. Migrating to Ethernet is a painless way for service providers to meet this need. So where's the pain? Here: Multiple overlay networks increase operating costs. Customers who want to migrate on their time and their schedule delay the transition. In addition, the majority of businesses worldwide lack a fiber connection. These issues can cause multiple headaches for service providers. Tellabs delivers fast acting relief with new features on the Tellabs(R) 8800 multiservice router (MSR) series, part of the Tellabs(R) AssuredEthernet(SM) solution. Take this and call me in the morning Not everyone is ready for Ethernet. What about businesses with multiple locations served by different types of networks? What about businesses who trust their current service and don't want to switch? The Tellabs 8800 MSR cures these headaches too. It enables providers to put traditional services, such as TDM, Frame Relay and ATM, over Ethernet. "It's painful when customers want services that the network isn't ready to deliver," said Dan Kelly, executive vice president of global products for Tellabs. "We're enabling providers to offer new Ethernet services over non-fiber networks or deliver traditional services over new IP networks, so everybody wins." Triple acting for fast relief The Tellabs 8800 MSR, with new Feature Package 7.1, delivers Multilink PPP (ML-PPP) and Generic Framing Procedure (GFP) to enable transport of Ethernet traffic over traditional copper and SONET networks. Providers can keep their customers pain free by delivering the right services, including Ethernet, while upgrading their networks at their own pace. In addition, service providers worldwide can carry traditional circuit-based traffic over new packet-based networks. The Tellabs 8800 MSR uses a technology called Structure-Agnostic TDM over Packet (SAToP). SAToP provides relief by disguising traditional traffic to look like packet-based traffic. So service providers can carry traditional TDM traffic through packet-based network infrastructure, including Ethernet. Providers can upgrade to the latest packet-based edge and core networks for the future, yet still deliver trusted, highly available services to their customers. With Tellabs 8800 MSR solutions, providers can deliver traditional and new Ethernet services to anyone. Now that's pain relief.
